- A very new technology for displays on construction machines like pavers, milling machines, cranes, lifters, etc., where the display could be outside the cabin -
Optical bonding refers to a protective glass that is glued in front of a display to enhance its readability where installed in high humidity outdoor environments. When a normal display is used in an outdoor environment, there are some factors that affect its readability. The most common one is “fog”, or condensation, which forms on the inner surface of display's vandal shield. Another factor is the reflection of sunlight, which causes a mirror-image on the display. Both phenomena can be solved by using optical bonding. (source: Wikipedia)
As explained in the following sketches, the normal gap of air between cover glass and display is replaced by a special optical bonding material. As a result of this technical change you do have 2 positive effects: less sunlight reflection and less light loss from backlight.
New MOBA display GD-800 - outside under strong sunlight – developed and produced especially for construction machines in a rough environment, where displays are very often located outside the cabin. In this demo display the left side is without optical bonding compared to the right side with optical bonding - less sunlight reflection and stronger backlight is easily visible.
