Best Telematics Blog Posts 2014

Telematics are around for a long time now and one would think that telematics tools are wide-spread in the construction industry by now. Reality is, however, that telematics applications are not common base in the construction industry yet, nevertheless that the industry anticipates a 30% market penetration by year of 2019.

CLOUD + CONSTRUCTION?

So where is the problem?

  • A wide variety of OEM offerings makes it difficult to decide on one
  • Independent third party solutions with different complexity levels are not easy to understand
  • Comparing individual offerings is a complex task and often not possible
  • Best Practice path how to start with telematics not entirely defined
  • One-fits-All approach does not seem to work for every user

While there are today a range of telematics solutions available in the market, it still is an overwhelming task to find the right fit for contractors to start with.

This is a list from recent blog posts considering best practice sources in regards to telematics information:

Telematics: Simple Successes in Equipment Cost Control by Rod Sutton

The AEM/AEMP Telematics Standard enabling the transfer of mixed fleet information to end-users will be available in its beta version in the coming days as the AEM website states. Users are required to register to take advantage of receiving the beta version as soon as it is available. The final version is still anticipated to be released by end of 2014. The new standard should have some great impact on making telematics solutions best practice for the years to come.

How to best start from here?

Monitoring idle time and fuel savings, tracking fleets and machine hours, and managing machine fault codes by pro-actively maintaining fleets, are a good start for any organization implementing telematics.

Do you have other resources and blog posts to add that are helpful to “ease” users into telematics?
