I really hope that is happening before 2029. It sounds like a less stressful environment than we have today. The key to success, I believe, lays in the fact, that technology has to be easy to implement, it has to be a big improvement compared to the status-quo, and people need to be well trained and feel comfortable to work with new technology.

A (possible) future of asphalt road construction One late evening in autumn, year 2029. The night shift crew appears at the jobsite. At that time the traffic is down and no jams are predicted. The hybrid powered paver puts up its

The interview with Tom Scullion of TTI about thermal segregation fits well to the paving quality discussion How to prevent pavement failure?

Don't we all want to do a great job and provide quality work? I believe most people would agree that quality work is important and that they deliver quality. BUT Image: Road Obstacle/ Shutterstock how do you define paving quality how do you improve

Valid points that it is difficult to improve if you don't measure temperature or compaction besides the point that you cannot correct anymore if the asphalt is laid down and rolled. A lot of problems, however, already start earlier, at the asphalt plant, for example. The quality of asphalt plays a major role, what additives are used, when they are added to the drum, how they are mixed, how asphalt gets loaded onto transport vehicles and .....This is a good blog post about what to look out for in material mixes and transport.

Kimmo, thanks for the great info! Would you be able to post a demo on the Community?

It seems like every day new solutions for cloud based applications are popping up also in the construction industry. Benefits claimed are higher efficiency by sharing information and collaborating in real-time, access from everywhere, connecting constructi

Kimmo, where do you see the biggest advantage to other cloud based applications? Are you working worldwide or more on a local basis?

Hello Yuyuan Sun, Are there also publicly funded research projects like in the US?

Better roads - Highway contractor 25 This is a very intersting article in the magazine Better Roads by Dan Brown. It is clearly stated that according to the research there is not a strong correlation between measured stiffness (with IC) and density. Ano

I understand that t makes it hard to deal with different systems on the same site. A solution could be maybe a hang-on system. Trimble and MOBA both offer those. What do you see is needed in the field? Is a passcounting system sufficient or is it the complete package with RTK?

Sjoerd Mangnus, you seem to be sceptical that any system available in the market right now is able to solve the problem. You are pointing out that the ICMV (Intelligent Compaction Measurement Value) does not correlate with the density values in asphalt. That might be true but is it still not worthwhile to have a system that gives a least some control over the compaction process?

Thank you for that great info. It looks like that the focus on paving a quality street wins quite some momentum which is nice to see. I am very eager to see what the outcome of all these efforts will be and what would ultimately be a good method and system that is practical and economical also for the contractor. You mention the benefits over the imperfection in your first sentence. Where do you see the most benefits and what are the obstacles and imperfections?
Do you see tendencies in other countries going the same route?
