Employee Retention Rates: not so High, but Why?

Does your company work with a management style that goes left to right where all work together with what seems to be equality to get the job done? Or does your company work, top/down, where management is viewed as the rulers with employees falling below the top of the line.

It’s important to know this establishment right out of the gate, even prior to hire. You have to understand what you are getting in to… and how the system works the best as possible without yet being on board, or you just may be in for a great, big, huge, disappointing surprise.

Take time to do your homework when seeking a good fit for an employer. It’s just as important for you to interview them, as for them to interview you. You may view that as backwards but not the case.

Generally speaking, there is a very high rate of turnover with employees working for companies. What’s this boil down to? A lack of loyalty? Maybe to a slight degree. However, if homework is done on both ends… there is a greater chance for higher retention rates with employees.

Why do people leave a company?

Usually for one of two reasons.

    1. A better offer has come along, a better package, a better opportunity, more money, better benefits, OR,
    2. I am not in agreement with the culture where I am at, this doesn’t feel right to me, I'm not happy, this is against my ethics, values, morals, I don’t care for the way that myself or others are being treated, thus feeling a "poisonous" environment.

What can be done to help with Employee Retention rates, in a world of rapid change?
