Are you offended by being asked, “Whatcha doing”?
Have a friend who is going through a management change right now. He has worked in his industry for 30 years, and confidently refers to himself as an expert. The industry is specific. Once you know what you are doing, and the players, no need for micromanagement. In comes a newly hired boss, a micromanager, to say the least. Having employees in the company so frazzled, production is decreasing at a rapid rate, employees have lost respect for the lack of trust this new boss is proving to have in them. All are miserable, the company seems to be falling apart. People are looking for new jobs. What a mess!
Sound familiar? Ever been through it with a company? Whether you have or not, you can imagine how “painful” it is. Business is good. Life is good. Career is good. All is well, and bam… change, overnight! Or how about the scenario, business is cruising along just fine, and a new employee is hired. This employee is asked to do something that, no one else has ever asked for, in order to get their job done? A big change. A different way …. And You, don’t like it.
Flexibility is a gift. It’s certainly not easy to be flexible. It’s not easy to bend and be comfortable with the bend. As adults, we are pretty much set in our ways. We have experience. We want others to see it from our point of view. Tough, tough, tough, tough stuff! Agree? What can you do to communicate better, being more flexible in times of change, management, process, procedure?
