Approachable: how do others view you?

How approachable are you?

There are people who are warm in heart and spirit, and others more abrasive, coming through as ""cold""?

Does one work better in business than the other? No. Both are needed. If we were all clones of each other, nothing would get done. If the rest of the world thought the same way you did, you may think for a moment, ""that would be awesome"". But, really? Think again.

The one thing you do need to make sure that you are, in spite of your warm or cold-hearted nature, is the importance of being, ""approachable"".

  • Are you accepting of others who aren’t like you?
  • Can you respect others in spite of their differences?
  • Are people “afraid” of you?

You don’t have to agree with others all of the time, but you must respect and be willing to work through differences in opinion, thought and solution. Working through this realization may take a little change in thought, in order to change, behaviorally. Give it a try:

  • Think ""I'm ok. You're ok"", instead of telling yourself, ""that person is 'blooming' out of their mind"",
  • be good with the space you are in, not so concerned with the space someone else is in,
  • think before you speak, rationally not impulsively.

How have you seen ""approachability"" and ""unapproachability"" work ""favorably"", or ""unfavorably"" in the work force? Let's get a discussion going
